Hi, I’m Sam! the face behind SLY Media and Design.
I grew up in south central Minnesota surrounded by faith, family, and Shorthorn cattle. Those roots taught me to work hard, stay grounded, and appreciate the small, honest moments that matter most.
Photography has always been part of my story, but it’s only in the last few years that I’ve really learned to see it, how it helps me notice the good that’s been there all along. What started as Samantha L Photography has grown into SLY Media and Design, a space where I get to combine creativity, storytelling, and the values that shape my life.
A big part of my world still revolves around the farm. Working with our Shorthorns keeps me humble and inspired. It reminds me that the best stories aren’t always polished, sometimes they’re found in the everyday work that goes unseen.
Balancing a career, farm life, and creative projects isn’t always easy, but it’s what keeps me motivated. Each day looks a little different, and that’s exactly how I like it.
Faith plays a central role in all of it. I’m grateful to do something that feels meaningful to help others capture their stories in a way that’s real, timeless, and true.
"Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms."

2008: discovering my love for cattle, hard work, and the life that would shape who I am.
My husband Joe and I starting forever together.
The day our Shorthorns arrived on mine and Joe’s very own land, marking a new chapter.
Life Behind the Lens
Outside of work and photography, I’m still deeply connected to the cattle industry. I love attending shows and mentoring youth who are finding their place in it. Watching them grow and gain confidence reminds me why I fell in love with it myself.
I’m a proud SDSU alum (go Jacks!) and still carry that sense of community and pride with me. When I’m not at a show or behind the camera, you’ll usually find me helping on the farm, spending time with my husband, our Aussie, and our silver Lab, or grabbing some food at our local bar. Coffee is a must around here, it keeps me going on busy days.
Life isn’t always calm or easy, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The mix of work, faith, family, and the people and animals I love is what keeps me grounded, motivated, and grateful every day.
